Happy 75th birthday to Lou Macari, without doubt one of the most popular Stoke City managers of all time - and a force for good in the city of Stoke-on-Trent. Macari took over at Stoke after the club had just recorded its lowest ever Football League finish. He took them to Wembley the following season and promotion as champions the next. His swashbuckling side spearheaded by Mark Stein went 25 games unbeaten on their way to promotion and the title. It might have been the the third tier but it was a joy to be a supporter after he took charge in 1991. We have pulled a whole load of photographs out of our archives from his first two seasons in charge.
