  • Female spectator shouts foul-mouthed abuse at Nadal
  • Nadal says Cameron Norrie will be his toughest test so far

Rafael Nadal overcame both a talented young opponent and an abusive fan in the crowd to reach the Australian Open third round with a 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Michael Mmoh. He will face Britain’s Cameron Norrie, who equalled his best ever grand slam result by beating Roman Safiullin of Russia 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6(3).

Nadal had been comfortably navigating all of the challenges posed by his opponent when, while serving for the second set at 5-4, the match was interrupted by a rowdy female spectator shouting foul-mouthed abuse as he prepared to serve. She then flipped her middle finger at him when he looked into the crowd.
